Dear students, colleagues and friends from our fellow ACAMIS schools,

I am delighted to formally welcome you to the ACAMIS Football Tournament here at the British School of Beijing, Shunyi (BSB)! This is fourth time we have hosted an ACAMIS tournament and it is an honour to have you join us for the event.  BSB has been here in Beijing for 11 years now, and we all speak openly of the ‘BSB family’ and the very warm welcome we like to give everyone who comes into our school – we are therefore very pleased to invite you into our family for just a few days in 2015!

WELCOME from our Principal

One of the huge benefits of being in an international school is the chance to make contacts and deep friendships across the world, which come about through the links we make during our inter-school events as well as in our own schools. That is the reason why we are BSB are so committed to these links, and we know that, in making the effort to come to Beijing, you are equally committed. Sport, in particular, has the power to create friendship and understanding in a way that almost nothing else can match, and I invite you to take up that spirit, in an atmosphere of intense but fair and friendly competition, as you compete for the ACAMIS trophy. As football across the world has become a more and more commercial sport, we have seen the dangers of this in terms of the attitude of players towards match officials and coaches; I know we will see our excellent ACAMIS players approach the game in the way we all expect – passionate commitment to win but total respect for others. I hope you also make many new friends through your participation, and go back to your own schools with happy memories and new skills to help you develop.

My thanks go to our team, but also your own teachers, for putting the programme together. I personally look forward to the opportunity of meeting with as many of you as possible during the coming days. Please do not hesitate to speak to anyone in the BSB team if there are things we can do to make the visit even better for you.

With very best wishes

Andy Puttock

Principal

Dear Friends,

We are delighted to welcome you to the British School of Beijing for this exciting competition!

It is always a pleasure and a privilege to welcome our ACAMIS friends, and we will do everything we can to make your visit enjoyable. Our team are on hand should you have any questions, and please feel free to tell us if there is something you would like us to do differently – we are here to help you!

Many nations claim the title of “Inventors of Football” including the Chinese, Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, Native Americans and of course the British. Whilst it is not possible to say definitely who was responsible, I am quite confident in saying that soccer is now the number 1 game around the world, so whoever invented it did us all a big favour!

Let’s enjoy a tournament in the spirit of that internationalism, and may the best team win!

WELCOME from our Head of Secondary

Dear friends from our fellow ACAMIS schools,

It gives me great pleasure to welcome in addition to BSB Shunyi the Gold Division participating member schools (Dalian American International School (DAIS), Hong Kong Academy (HKA), Hangzhou International School (HIS), The International School of Macao (TIS), & International School of Nanshan Shenzhen (ISNS)) for this year’s U19 Soccer Championships at BSB Shunyi. This is the 4rd time we have hosted ACAMIS within the Gold Division and the 2nd time hosting soccer.

WELCOME from our Director of Sport & PE

Soccer is the 3rd and final core sport tournament within ACAMIS for the 2014-2015 academic year. Many students participating in this tournament will mark their final ACAMIS tournament and for some of you, it is your first one. BSB is in a very unique situation this year entering two girls' teams as one school could not send a team. As I always express to our teams and students every year, take advantage of these opportunities as there are so few of them available at this level or beyond your secondary academic careers. But above all, have fun, play hard and enjoy your time at BSB and in Beijing over the course of the tournament.

Like so many things at BSB I just want to say a big THANK YOU to the PE/Sport Department who all of you will see throughout the tournament either managing the action on the pitches or helping to supervise for the many activities scheduled throughout the tournament and in the evening. Also our marketing team has done a fabulous job making the ACAMIS environment at school truly in the spirit and mood for this event. Special thanks to Brenda Leung, Anna Jin, Eli Puttock, & Nicole Washko for their added and continued efforts on the marketing and communication side. Finally, I wanted to thank our students, (especially the Y10 PE GCSE Student Helpers), teachers, and school leadership as without them we won’t be able to do so many of the things we do at the level we do.

Good luck to all the teams and I look forward to a great tournament as well as all the experiences that go with ACAMIS sporting events. Feel free to come and speak to me at any time or any member of the BSB team as it is our pleasure to host these games.
